Hello Again,
Today I decided to take all of us to a Melbourne
specialty, Luna Park !
This place has been making kids dreams come true since 1912. They are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. It was so cool! I mean you walk into the park
through a giant moon man mouth known as, Mr. Moon. Kinda reminded me of a giant, scary looking clown. Hope none of us are afraid of
clowns!
Well the park was located in St. Kilda and was about 10km
from The Nunnery. So, rather than
walking, since we would be walking around the park all day, we splurged on a
cab which cost us $26.50 USD. The park
has limited hours this time of year and is only open Friday thru Sunday. We wanted to experience everything so we
arrived right at opening time, 11am. Adult
tickets for unlimited rides were $45.95 AUD which comes out to $48.25 USD for a
grand total of $289.50 USD.
Of course, the first thing we did was the main attraction, the
Scenic Railway Roller Coaster. This
roller coaster is truly a one of a kind and I am so happy that we were able to
do this while we were here. It is the
oldest continually operated wooden roller coaster in the entire world!!! AND it
is really one-of-a-kind because there is a standing brakeman that controls the
carriage throughout the ride. We had to
think about that one at first because it seemed a bit sketchy, I mean the whole
idea of a roller coaster that operates like a car almost. We put all of our
trust in the brakeman and he did a magnificent job. The coaster ran the perimeter of the park and
offered amazing views of the St. Kilda beaches.
Other rides that we rode throughout the day included the Coney
Island Top Drop, the Sky Rider, the Spider, the Twin Dragon, G-Force, and the Enterprise . With our unlimited ride tickets we had to
have ridden everything at least 10 times.
It was so much fun!!!
At the end of the day, we crossed the street to walk on the
St. Kilda beaches that we had been staring at all day from the Scenic Railway
Roller Coaster. The sand felt so good
between our sore toes seeing as we had walked all day long. Nothing beats sitting in the sand and letting
carnival food digest at the end of a super fun day.
We took a cab ride back to The Nunnery and all of us were
asleep within the hour. It was such a
great day!
We spent $289.50 USD on our tickets, $53 USD on our cab
rides to and from the park, and $172 USD on carnival food, we each ate 2 meal
equivalents throughout the day. That
makes for a grand total of $514.50 USD.
This has been a great way to wrap up our time in Australia !
Best wishes,
Zach M.
