Pettah and The Jami Ul-Alfar Masque

Greetings Guys & Gals,

What a day we had. We absorbed about just as much as a human can take in before they explode. We started off taking a bus through the busy streets of Colombo to Pettah. Pettah is a maze of streets and allies crammed filed of shops with goods that went beyond your imagination. We were told ahead of time by many locals that we would have to hold our own with the merchants and it was not for the faint of heart. We saw colorful textiles, gold and silver, and colonial era antiques but also spices, fruits and vegetables, and huge stacks of dried fish. Once we got our fill of the culture of Colombo we walked down the street to the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque. Its a piece of work, its pieced together like a lego building and colored red and white. It is beautiful in its own unique way, and the inside was just as intriguing. It was a great way to learn a little about the Muslim religion and the culture of Colombo. We all made it through the day luckily not losing too much money. After we made it back to the bungalow we tallied up our loses and it came out to $56.20 US dollars after a day on the streets with a meal and a bus ride home. Check out some pictures....
